Los Angeles Angels Bobbleheads Bless Their Namesake!

This LA Times article has a snippet that demonstrates how having your own Bobblehead Night can improve your game! :)
"..First baseman Darin Erstad, who was nearly traded for Garland in 2002, made his bobblehead giveaway night a memorable one, with a double and two singles and two superb defensive plays, leaning over the railing and reaching far into the White Sox dugout for Tadahito Iguchi's first-inning popup and Jermaine Dye's fifth-inning popup..."

Minnesota Twins Bobblehead Fans Sleep in Line like Star Wars Fans!

Some Minnesota Twins fans slept outside the Metrodome last FRiday night to make sure they'd get the first bobblehead doll of the season...
"They set up tents just like they were in a campground. Some slept right on the cement in sleeping bags.

The Twins handed out Jacque Jones bobbleheads to the first 10,000 fans. But, you may be surprised to hear that it's not really all about the bobblehead for some of these campers.

“It’s just about the other fans that are out here and the conversation with them about the Twins and the game and Twins history,” Twins fan Erik Solis said. “So, it’s mostly about the camaraderie with the people out here.”

Still, the bobbleheads can be worth some money for collectors. Just hours after the game started, Jacque Jones’ doll was selling between $20 and $30 on eBay.com.

During each giveaway, the Twins will distribute at least 100 bobbleheads in between innings for late-arriving fans.""

Your Chance to Become a Bobble Head?

I may have found this article: too late, but it appears there is/was an eBay auction for someone to get their own bobblehead made...
"The Fightin’ Falcons are auctioning off a once in a lifetime opportunity. They are placing the chance to be a bobble head on E-Bay at noon today, May 6, 2005.

The highest bidder will have their likeness used for a full size bobble head that will be given away at a Surprise Fightin’ Falcons Baseball Game. There will be 1000 of these handed out to the fans as they walk through the gates of Surprise Stadium.

In addition to being the bobble head, the highest bidder will receive their name on the bobble head, 10 bobble heads, their own team jersey and cap, the chance to throw out the first pitch, sign autographs for the fans, 100 tickets to give to your friends and family, sit on the bench with the team for an inning, deliver the official line ups to the umpires and the chance to do an inning of PA announcing.

All of the proceeds will benefit Habitat for Humanity."

Earl Weaver Bobblehead Kicked from the Game

The first 1,500 fans at today's Rochester Red Wings game were supposed to receive an Earl Weaver bobblehead Doll.

Instead - as Weaver was so many times during his fiery career as Orioles manager - the figurines have been tossed.

It seems the 1,500 dolls, which showed Weaver wearing his cap backward and swinging his right leg, left the former manager shaking his head. Someone bobbled the assignment, so the collectibles are being returned to the factory for retrofitting.

Fans will be given a coupon redeemable on July 17.

Minnesota Twins Baseball: TWINS 2005 BOBBLEHEAD DAYS SET TO BEGIN...

MINNEAPOLIS - ST. PAUL, MN – The back-to-back-to-back American League Central Division Champion Minnesota Twins, in conjunction with Hormel, have announced plans for the first Bobblehead Day of the 2005 season. The Hormel Jacque Jones Bobblehead Doll will be given away to the first 10,000 fans at the Sunday, May 15 game at 1:10 p.m. against the Texas Rangers.

Continuing a popular part of the promotion that was started in 2001, fans that do not arrive early enough to receive a Bobblehead Doll will be given a “second chance ticket”. The ticket will feature a number enabling the fan a chance to receive a Bobblehead Doll during several between-inning drawings. At least 100 Bobblehead Dolls will be given away during between-inning drawings each bobblehead giveaway day this season.

There are three Hormel Bobblehead giveaway days planned for fans this season. Pitcher Joe Nathan (July 1) and 2004 American League Cy Young Award winner Johan Santana (September 16) will also be honored with their own bobblehead doll days this season.

A fourth bobblehead day, the August 21 Ecumen Stars Bobblehead giveaway, is in conjunction with the 40th Anniversary Celebration of the Twins’ 1965 American League Championship. The Twins will be celebrating the anniversary of Minnesota’s first World Series appearance from August 18-21 as the Twins host the Seattle Mariners. The first 10,000 fans attending the Sunda"

Philadelphia Soul Tony Graziani Bobbleheads Searched by Customs

In an earlier post, I reported when customs at the US/Canada border delayed a shipment of Chris Carpenter Bobbleheads.

And now I read that U.S. Customs at the West Coast have delayed bobbleheads there too!

So if the terrorists are planning on sneaking into the United States disguised as Bobblehead Dolls, they'd better come up with a new plan..! :)

""They couldn't look more innocent: little guys with a permanent smile who nod agreement to everything and never say a discouraging word.

Or any word.

But that hasn't been enough to keep 5,000 bobblehead dolls bound for Philadelphia out of trouble.

The bobbleheads, made in China in the image of Philadelphia Soul quarterback Tony Graziani, were to be given to the first 5,000 fans at Sunday's game with the Columbus Destroyers at the Wachovia Center.

Instead, they have been stuck in Southern California for a week and a half, waiting to clear customs..."

Jockey Joe Bravo bobblehead giveaway

Just saw this on the Asbury Park Press...

"It was a big week for jockey Joe Bravo. Saturday he rode in his first Kentucky Derby, and on May 28, Monmouth Park will immortalize its 10-time leading rider with a Joe Bravo bobblehead giveaway.

The bobbleheads are already on sale on eBay, with prices ranging from 99 cents to $15.

"I don't know how to respond to it," he said. "I never had a bobblehead, so I don't know what to say. I think I'm going to get picked on a lot, though..."

DJ Bobblehead's Photo Gallery

Ooo! Last month I wrote an entry about a woman pleading for the return of her stolen DJ bobblehead, and just now I checked out the actual radio stations' site to discover they have photos of that bobblehead online...

It's called "The Adventures of Bobblehead Ray" and features a few mundane photos along with pictures of the bobblehead 'posing' with a couple of celebrities - although I have to admit I don't personally recognize any of the celebrities offhand.

The bobblehead is based on a Dublin, Ireland radio station DJ so they may be Irish celebs I'm not familiar with(?).

In any case click here to see their small (but growing) gallery of Bobblehead Ray photos.

Football Gold Nugget Bobblehead Awards "Season Tickets for Life"

I've mentioned this bobblehead give-away event before ("Nodder Give-Away Contains a REAL Gold Nugget!"), and here's a newish article about one of the "Gold Nugget" Bobblehead winners...
"The Yuma Arizona Scorpions announced today that the first of their three special ‘Nugget Bobblehead Promotion’ winners has come forward to claim his prize.

By virtue of being among the first 150 to purchase Scorpions’ Season Tickets during the month of February, Foothills resident Rick Surian has won Scorpions’ Season Tickets for life.

Surian didn’t officially discover that he was a winner until today-even though he had purchased his lone season ticket way back in late February.

Surian was one of 150 that were given a limited-edition bobblehead of ‘Nugget’, the golden retriever mascot of the Golden Baseball League, when he purchased a 2005 season seat. Two of the 150 bobbleheads had stickers inside the bobblehead box that awarded the recipient ‘season tickets for life’ to Scorpions’ home games.

A third bobblehead-in place of the GBL baseball that ‘Nugget’ would normally be holding-has ‘Nugget’ holding an authentic gold nugget that’s valued at over $500. Surian-the Regional Manager for Westwind RV Park and Golf Resort in the Foothills-actually received his bobblehead on the same day that he came into the Scorpions’ offices to purchase his seat, but let the box sit untouched until today.

“I didn’t really think so,” said Surian-when asked if he thought he’d be one of the three winners when he bought his seat.

“In fact, I hadn’t even opened the box until today. I saw the sticker, but I really wasn’t sure whether or not that was unique, or if it was in all of the season ticket holders’ boxes...” "

Kerouac Bobblehead's Mold Broken

According to TheLedger.com...

"A bobblehead doll of Beat Generation author Jack Kerouac created as a promotion by the minor-league Lowell Spinners joined the collection at the Baseball Hall of Fame on Wednesday. He is believed to be the first literary figure so honored.

'The Hall of Fame's collections are rich and diverse, given baseball's history and role in helping to shape and define American culture,' Hall spokesman Jeff Idelson said. 'Having the Jack Kerouac bobblehead in our collection is important, given he's an American icon who had a deep passion for the game, which he shared in his writing...' "

A Moose Bobblehead (Weird Things in her House)

Here's an amusing weblog post I found... with one section that talks about her Moose Bobblehead!
"Bobblehead Moose was acquired this past summer when we visited the Adirondacks of upstate New York for vacation.

I used to keep him in the back window of my car, so he could nod at people, but alas....the horns make him sort of top heavy.

He falls over easily. So now, he smiles down on me from atop my computer hutch."

Check out the post here to see a pic of her bobblehead moose. :)
