A Nodder-giveaway controversy rears its ugly (bobble) head!

Matt Frejie is the Venderbilt (University?) team's leading scorer, recently drafted by the Miami Heat before being "dealt to New Orleans". And when the team played the University of Tennessee, there was a limited give-away of a nodder in his likeness using a scratch ticket lottery.

But it seems some of the Tennessee spectators are a little miffed because they weren't given tickets to receive one of the noddders (some may have been outright refused when they asked for one), and recently one of those bobbleheads sold for over $40 on eBay. :)

Freije bobbleheads are big hit - Wednesday, 02/09/05: "...There's nothing like a bobblehead controversy to further the feud between Vanderbilt and Tennessee. Some UT fans felt slighted when it came to the giveaway. Vanderbilt handed out 5,000 scratch-off tickets prior to the Tennessee game on Feb. 2. There were 1,500 winners who collected bobbleheads.

In an e-mail to The Tennessean, one UT fan said she asked for a scratch-off at the door but workers representing Vanderbilt refused to give Vols fans the cards.

''I personally haven't received any complaints, but the promotion was clearly geared toward Vanderbilt fans,'' said Eric Nichols, Vanderbilt's director of marketing and promotions. ''We just assumed Tennessee fans wouldn't have any interest in a Matt Freije bobblehead.''

Nichols said there was no directive to the staff handing out the tickets to avoid giving them to UT fans..."
