Everett Silvertips Give Away 1000 Bobbleheads

Successful Silvertips haven't bobbled often

They are in only their third season, but the Everett Silvertips have plenty to celebrate when they look in the rearview mirror.

The Silvertips brought back a piece of their history when they gave away 1,000 Bryan Nathe bobblehead dolls before Tuesday's hockey game against the Regina Pats.

Nathe was the team's first captain, and he came to the expansion team in his final season of eligibility in the Western Hockey League on a mission.

He wasn't a flashy player and wasn't much of a threat to score, but he never took a shift off and demanded the same from his teammates.

Nathe was the perfect captain for a team that shocked the league by winning the U.S. Division and the Western Conference championships in its first season.

Nathe's bobblehead was the first of five doll giveaways scheduled this season. Other bobblehead commemoratives will feature likenesses of Jeff Harvey, Ivan Baranka, Riley Armstrong and Mitch Love.

Zoran Rajcic, Everett's director of operations, said the players selected for the bobbleheads were chosen in April and that it wasn't easy to narrow the list to five players from that first season.

"We wanted to choose guys who were prominent in our organization, who helped set the tone for the franchise," Rajcic said. "Looking back at that season, we had 21 plumbers who just grinded out wins by scoring goals that wouldn't make anyone's highlight reel. Bryan was chosen first because he was our captain..."
